Not "oh he was stabbed 13 times and his blood was collected in a jar" but because of some idiot who decided travelling in the fucking fog??? Next I'll be executed for taking a fart because it caused someone with asthma to have an attack and they died. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
"She's a witch" is how they make it make sense. If she's a witch then she can (and does) create the fog, if she can (and does) create the fog then she can control it, so she can make it extra thick to obscure vision exactly when it's most likely to cause an accident, she can also make it more toxic, so that the people in it cough and can't breathe, and that could cause them to not look where they're going. The logic tracks. They're wrong, and basing it all on the assumption that she's a witch, but that idea comes from her having survived 7 years of isolation in a gaslit mansion that had no gas going to it, which is admittedly very weird (where did she get food from??). I wouldn't know how to explain that irl, where I'd feel fairly confident saying that she wasn't doing magic, in fiction it very well could be magic. Do I think it is? No, I think this fog is actually smog and she just has a good constitution and mostly clean lungs. No idea what's going on with the mansion, though.
